Before any planning or design can take place, a comprehensive understanding of what files need to be migrated, what potential incompatibilities they contain and which ones are in scope is required.  DiscoverIT automatically identifies all files on a network and tags those files that contain VBA/macros, links, passwords and charts, saving an enormous amount of time and effort when compared to a manual approach.  The data collected is then presented in a user-configurable report.



On the basis of these reports it can then be decided which files need converting.  ScanIT allows us to estimate the likely size of the incompatibility impact and plan accordingly.  This includes issues such as:

• VBA References
• Invalid Links
• Named ranges in Excel
• Dated MS Access pages

ScanIT generates an XML file that is used by ReportIT to communicate the findings in the specified format.

Finally all files are run through ConvertIT.  Every file specified is automatically converted from binary (e.g. MS Office 2003) to OOXML (e.g. MS Office 2010) format. Attempting to do this manually would be a huge undertaking, whereas ConvertIT completes it in a matter of hours.  Over 90% of compatibility issues are typically resolvable automatically, again saving significant time and cost when compared with the equivalent work carried out by developers manually.
