Leading airports operator BAA has won recognition from Information Age magazine in the annual Effective IT awards BAA’s three year, £26 million “Webtop” programme to introduce a server based IT platform has been judged worthy of two awards - the award for The Most Effective Enterprise Wide Infrastructure and the celebrated award for the Most Effective IT project.
BAA was assisted by Citrix systems and C&C Technology Ltd throughout the programme.
The business benefits of the programme have been considerable. It has changed the way 9,000 airport workers conduct business and means that instead of accessing software such as Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes through PC’s, staff can now access all their software and data from web based browsers anywhere in the world. It has also enabled BAA to improve IT security, lower maintenance costs, reduce dependencies between products and facilitate an increasing trend towards flexible working.
BAA is now able to manage its IT infrastructure from a series of enhanced servers (rather than having to attend and service individual PC’s).
