Application Performance Management

Application Performance Management (APM)

Overview

There is a growing pressure on IT departments to deploy new or modified applications, across the business and to customers, within aggressive timescales, with less financial resources and using increasingly complex delivery mechanisms. Poorly performing applications can impact productivity and customer loyalty and ultimately add unnecessary cost to the business.

APM (Application Performance Management) is an IT Service Management function that aims to provide a comprehensive definition of an organisation’s IT services, the quality of those services and the extent to which they meet the needs of the business. Essentially, APM covers the processes and monitoring that ensure that a critical application or service is able to meet the performance and availability expectations placed on it by the business, and that service-degrading issues are detected and resolved before these affect the business bottom-line.
